Description
Moisture and dew can be a common problem in the telescope at some locations. Heaters can easily remove the dew from the external parts of the telescope and optics. However, once the internal surface of the lens or corrector plate in the Mak or SCT telescope is covered with dew, the problem becomes bigger.
The tube containing desiccant can be put into the 2″ focuser and will absorb the moisture inside the telescope between the observing sessions. This way once you start your observations, the telescope interior will be dry and the temperature decrease will not cause dew condensation.
The tube is available in two sizes – the larger one is recommended for larger telescopes with large internal volumes. The standard tube capacity is 100ccm, and the long tube capacity is 160ccm.
Desiccant (optional) is a high-quality orange silica gel. The color of the gel changes once it absorbs moisture. After it absorbs about 6-8% (by weight) of moisture it becomes green. However, it can still be used because it can absorb over 20% of moisture. Then it can be regenerated in the oven at a temperature of 130-160C. Once it becomes orange it can be put into the tube again. The optional desiccant container contains 500ccom (400g) of silica gel.
